Learn How to Improve Product SEO in Shopify in just a few steps!
One of the most important factors of getting your Shopify store to rank higher in search results is Product SEO. In this article, we’re going to cover the four most important aspects of product optimization so you can understand How to Improve Product SEO in Shopify. We’ll be covering the ideal Product Title, Product Description, Product Meta Title and Product Meta Description.
Why is Product SEO in Shopify so Important?
I’ll try to convey the importance of Product SEO in Shopify using a corny metaphor. Bear with me. I want you to imagine a large forest with trees of various heights. The tree that represents your website is the smallest tree, hidden beneath the canopy of the larger trees.
The trunk of that tree is your website and the leaves are all of your products. In order for that tree to grow, you’ll need as much sunlight and water as possible. That sunlight is equivalent to the consumers you’re targeting. The water is Google. In order for the sunlight to reach your leaves, you’ll need your tree to grow taller than the others, and you’ll need lots of water for your tree to grow.
In other words, if you want the consumer to find your products, you’ll need your products to rank higher. In order for your products to rank higher, you’ll need SEO. Without SEO, Google won’t water your tree, and your leaves will never see the sunlight.
In conclusion, to get your products in front of your consumers, you’ll need Product SEO to get your products ranking higher in Google. To see how this is done, watch the video above and read on.
1. Product Title
The Product Title is your store’s first impression to the consumer. It should be as informative and attractive as possible without being too long or keyword stuffed. This section of SEO in Shopify requires a delicate balance, which can take some time to master.
What Makes a Great Product Title?
A great Product Title includes information that will appeal to the consumer, but also describe your product in a concise manner. For example, if your product is a pair of sparkly jeans, don’t name them “Blue Sparkle Pants” name them something like “Sparkly Blue Jeans”, with “Blue Jeans” being the keyword.
2. Product Description
The Product Description section in Shopify is one that can be difficult to perfect. This section needs to include information about your product but doesn’t necessarily need keywords unless it’s absolutely necessary for the description. The most important thing to consider when writing the product description is relevance and customization. You’ll need the description to be captivating. The longer a visitor stays on that product page, and the higher the conversion rate, the higher your product will rank.
3. Product Meta Title
The Product Meta Title is arguably the most important aspect of Product SEO in Shopify. The meta title is how your product is represented in Google Search results. Essentially, it’s your digital product display. It needs the perfect balance of keywords and wittiness to rank high in Google, but to also capture the attention of the consumer. A general format to consider is “Product Name & Keyword | Something Captivating | Store Name”. It might look something like “Sparkly Blue Jeans | Up to 20% Off | Easy Pickins”.
4. Product Meta Description
The Product Meta Description is the second piece of product meta data and must also include keywords to align with Google’s “SEO rubric”. However, while the meta title has a larger focus on keywords, the meta description allows room for more captivating copy. Your description may look something like this seen on hobbylobby.com; “You can give your crafts and projects a dazzling touch of color and festive glamour with a dusting of Blue Jeans Extra Fine Glitter!”. Their description includes my exact search terms but also captures your attention with a fun description.
