The Expressive Hand Small Business Marketing Interview

Please watch our Small Business Saturday Marketing Interview with The Expressive Hand.

This week’s Small Business Saturday marketing interview we sat down with Marcie Ziskind, owner of The Expressive Hand, an art studio located in South Philadelphia.

The name “The Expressive Hand” came from the studio’s original owner, who was deaf. The studio’s name has a special meaning because “The Expressive Hand” not only represented how the owner was able to communicate but the creative aspect of what the studio offers. Marcie has been with The Expressive Hand since the beginning. About a year into the business, she had the opportunity to take over and has been running the studio ever since. The Expressive Hand has been in business for 11 successful years.

Marcie’s background is not in art – she has always been a businesswoman and entrepreneur. Marcie started out bookkeeping and running the back end of her husband’s business. She then moved onto bookkeeping for other small businesses. Marcie decided to study sign language and that is how she met the original owner.

The studio offers a number of DIY projects ranging from painting your own pottery to fused glass artwork. The Expressive Hand is BYOB!

Don’t have Valentines Day plans yet? Book a seat at their Valentines Day event taking place on Thursday, February 14th! The attendees with be doing a string art project – a rendition of Robert Indiana’s LOVE statue.

Marcie and her husband have been entrepreneurs for 35 years. She accredits The Expressive Hand’s success to the skills she has learned over the years through being an entrepreneur, and the support of her family and team. Marcie believes in creating a space that is for everybody. They also participate in fundraising to give back to their community.
