What is a Facebook Pixel?

According to Facebook,  “A Facebook pixel is an analytics tool that consists of a code that you can put on your website. The pixel fires to track site visitors. This data allows you to retarget those users with Facebook ads in the future, as well as see what they‘re doing on your site when they return.”

What does this really mean? In layman’s terms, YOU NEED a Facebook Pixel!

A Facebook Pixel tracks specific data on your site and allows you to remarket to any consumer who didn’t complete your buyer’s journey but landed on your website or landing page. With the Facebook Pixel, a business is capable of retargeting to any user who recently viewed their digital ads. This valuable analytic tool helps your business truly understand its consumers. Facebook Pixels help you understand more about the visitors on your website (remember these are your potential consumers) and implement that information to improve your marketing strategy and or ads.

  1. Go to your Pixels tab in Events Manager.
  2. Click Create a Pixel.
  3. Click Create – a box will appear.

Great job! Your Facebook Pixel has been created! Now we have to embed the Facebook Pixel in order to track and remarket to your consumers and potential buyers. Read below on ways to embed your Facebook pixel.

Add the Facebook pixel to your website

Once you’ve created your pixel, you’re ready to put the Facebook Pixel code on your website. Facebook offers 3 different ways options for embedding a Facebook Pixel.

  1. Someone else makes changes to my website
  2. I update my website’s code
  3. My site uses a tag manager or is hosted on a popular website platform

I, personally, work with WordPress websites, so number three is always my go to! If you do not have a developer – don’t panic. This is not a do or die situation. You honestly don’t need to be tech-savvy to figure this out.  Click on number three if your website platform doesn’t appear, then follow the directions.

As promised, here is a video I created showing ou this step by step guide, on creating a Facebook business page, and Facebook pixel.

Tracking is queen! Track what matters to your business:

After you’ve embedded the Facebook Pixel on to your website, add events to track specific actions people take on your website (This is where all the magic happens). Tracking your data helps you minimize your Facebook ad spend and narrow your target audience, eventually producing sales.

Facebook Custom Events

According to Facebook, “Events are actions that happen on your website (like when someone clicking a CTA and subscribing to your newsletter). Facebook Pixels and tracking allow your business to gain the insights needed about your target audience, by sending specifically targeted messages to users who already know your brand and track the effectiveness of the ads. “

PRO TIP: If you’d like your Pixel to fire on specific button clicks, you’ll have to update the code to tie to an event to an action. Learn more on our developers site, under the Track In-Page Events section.

Also, if you ever need to test your Pixel, and test if it’s working, simply download the Facebook Pixel helper to your chrome profile. Read below for more details.
